Art and Poetry - Signac and Hugo

Victor Hugo, “Spring”. 1893
Paul Signac, “Trees in Flowers”, 1896

Here the long days, light, love, madness !
Here is spring! March, April with a sweet smile,

Flowery May, scorching June, all the beautiful months friends!
.
The poplars, on the banks of the sleeping rivers,
Bend softly like large palm fronds;
The bird flutters in the depths of the warm and calm woods;
It seems that everything is laughing, and that the green trees
Are happy to be together and say verses to each other.
The day dawns crowned with a fresh and tender dawn;
The evening is full of love; at night, we think we hear,
Through the immense shadow and under the blessed sky,
Something happy singing in infinity.
