Gironde: Châteaux Featuring Art This Summer

Spring brings with it the desire to explore the vineyards. This bucolic stroll is an opportunity to discover exhibitions where art and vineyards converse in the cellars or gardens of châteaux, showcasing both regional and international artists.

Aki Kuroda and Yoyo Maeght have known each other for 45 years. Publisher and gallerist, Yoyo Maeght is the curator of this exhibition, which presents 60 works by the Japanese artist in the cellars of Château Malleret. She met Aki Kuroda in 1980 through Marguerite Duras and immediately organized a first exhibition at the Maeght gallery entitled "The Darkness of Aki Kuroda."

A few decades later, the staging combines old works and new creations, in a journey conceived as a voyage between mythology, cosmos, and hybrid figures. The different series echo each other: from the omnipresent, frantic, threatening, or gallows-faced rabbit, Rabbit, to the elephant, as well as animal chimeras on colorful cubic backgrounds or dark minotaurs, acrylics on paper. One is also struck by his self-portraits, made of collages and etchings on paper, barred with multicolored lines. One can discover the Cosmosgarden project, evoking the shimmering of constellations on blue backgrounds, thus pushing the boundaries of reality. The exhibition also includes texts by Marguerite Duras and Pascal Quignard that illuminate the artist's work.
